Orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics is a dental specialty concerned with the diagnosis, prevention, interception, guidance and correction of bad bites and Orthodontists are dentists who carry out the necessary treatment for the same.

Commonly Asked Questions

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first check-up with an orthodontist no later than age 7. By that age, a child will have a mix of baby and permanent teeth, and the orthodontist will be able to recognize orthodontic problems (“malocclusions”) even in their earliest stages.
If your teeth are crowded, protrusive, spaced too far apart, meet in an abnormal way, or do not meet at all, correction may be recommended. Irregularly placed teeth can make it difficult for you to clean and can cause gum and bone issues at a later stage. Braces and aligners are the “appliances” orthodontists most commonly use to guide your teeth into their proper positions. When the position of the jaws contribute to the irregular position of teeth, the jaws need to be treated as well and this treatment is called Dentofacial Orthopedics.
It is generally understood that your smile is one of the first characteristics noticed by others. A smile filled with beautifully aligned pearly whites will make a better impression than one that is poorly aligned.

Orthodontics is a technical and scientific area of dentistry that not only focuses on functional occlusion, but also can dramatically improve the quality of people’s lives by creating an esthetic, pleasing smile, which can increase self-esteem and self-confidence.

The treatment time is specific to each case and the Orthodontist would be the best person to determine the timespan needed for correction depending on the severity of the case. Though, on an average Orthodontic treatment can take anywhere from 8 months to 1.5 yrs.
One of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over 21 years old. Braces can be worn at any age, provided gum and bone health are good. After a painless check up, a quick in-house full mouth x-ray is a quick method to determine the same. The options for adult braces are unlimited and we at The Dental Experience specialize at adult Orthodontics making the process painless and comfortable with an appliance of your choice.
Bad bites can be detrimental to the patient’s health. Restorations, crowns, or bridges are often difficult for a dentist to provide without prior repositioning of the teeth by an orthodontist. Properly aligned and supported teeth are healthier, easier to clean and therefore more likely to last throughout the patient’s lifetime.
For adults, the benefits of a beautiful smile are especially appreciated. A person can actually look years younger by straightening crooked teeth or correcting and excessive overbite or underbite. A beautiful smile can increase self-confidence and, in turn, a sense of well-being.
Yes!!! We specialize in Invisalign(transparent Aligners), Lingual Orthodontics(Braces on the inside) and Damon Clear(ceramic self ligating Braces), all of which are highly esthetic options that are practically invisible.
The phase after Orthodontic treatment is called the Retention Phase. In this phase the teeth are held in their corrected positions to preserve and stabilize the results of your treatment. Retention phase in some cases is as important as the treatment Phase and retainers are absolutely necessary in all cases. The duration for this phase is to be determined by your Orthodontist and varies as per the case.

Today, multiple retention options are available. Most often we use fixed retention that comprises of a thin sleek wire that is placed on the inner surfaces of your teeth and is not visible at all. It does not hinder your cleaning process does not affect gum health.
Following the retention protocol is imperative as teeth do tend to move back to their original place.

TAKE YOUR RETAINERS SERIOUSLY OR YOUR ORTHODONTIC RESULTS CAN BE UNDONE AND YOU MAY THEN NEED RE-TREATMENT!!!
